Edge-Connect™ is the patent-pending newest member in the family of Connectors and Cables from Tag-Connect.

By connecting to the literal edge of the PCB (not the surface near the edge like traditional edge-connectors) Edge-Connect™ is designed to essentially eliminate the wasted real-estate needed by JTAG programming and test connectors.

Edge-Connect™ is an Ideal solution for space-sensitive PCB’s and modules that don’t have room on the board for traditional connectors but which still need a means of programming firmware and testing.

Instead of using the usual space-costly Surface Mount or Plated Through-Hole connectors, Edge-Connect™ has springy gold-plated contacts that connect directly to the literal edge of the target PCB using edge castellation.

A Castellated PCB edge is a board edge that has plated through holes that are placed overhanging the edge of the board and typically made at little to no extra cost even from most cheap proto-board fab services (often a check box in the online quote is marked "Castellated Holes").

Castellated edges are commonly used on RF, WiFi, BLE and IoT sensor modules making them suitable for soldering as an SMT component onto host PCB’s using the castellated holes as pins. Edge-Connect™ allows test and programming and even debugging without first soldering the module to the host PCB. This makes it very useful for factory test and programming of the module.

EC-14, the first product in the Edge-Connect™ family will be launching October 25th 2017 at ARM Techcon, Santa Clara and is expected to be available for purchase November 1st 2017.

EC-14 has a castellation pitch of 1.27mm and requires a single tiny non-plated through hole to locate and hold the PCB in place.

TC-FRICTION 10-Pack Friction Clip-Board for TC2050 and TC2070

The Friction-CLIP board is a simple small board with friction-fit holes that pushes onto the steel alignment pins on the underside of your PCB to hold the no-legs versions of the TC2050-IDC-NL and TC2070-IDC-NL in place for debugging use.

Compared to the TC2050-CLIP boards these friction clip boards have a stronger grip but may be harder to insert (actually with practice both are easy).

There are two positions that TC2050 or TC2070 No Leg cables can be inserted. Looking at the image top-left, the two rightmost holes should be used for the strongest grip. The other position has less interference. On the current batch of boards only the rightmost position grips well.

TC-FRICTION is being obsoleted. A new replacement product is available called GRIP-10 (for use with TC2050) and GRIP-14 (for use with TC2070). Contact us for details. +1 877 244 4156. The GRIP's hold the cable firmly to the board for debugging. For frequent attachment / removal of TC2050 cables consider TC2050-CLIP instead. There is no TC2070-CLIP board, please use GRIP-14.
